Hayden's Big Day

As a follower of Jesus, there is probably no greater moment of joy than to see your child make the decision to commit their life to following him too. Then to see them share that decision by being baptized.

On Sunday, September 8, 2013, our oldest child Hayden made that decision.

Kerry and I have prayed for each of our children since birth that God would prepare them to one day know him and accept the gift of salvation. Hayden has been asking questions about what it means to be a Christian, and why Jesus had to die for us for a little over a year now.  A little over a week ago she approached me and told me she felt God was wanting her to make that commitment.

We discussed it on the ride home from church and then again with her Daddy when we got home. I have always wondered if I would know she really understood or was ready to make this decision. Turns out, God gave her mama and unbelievable sense of peace and joy, and I just knew.

So as a family we all sat in the living room, held hands, and listened while Hayden asked God to forgive her of her sins and to come live in her heart. It was simple and beautiful. It was the prayer of a child wanting to truly know God and for him to save her. Not a prayer her mama or daddy could say for her. It was all Hayden's words.
Immediately after she prayed Hayden was beaming as were her mama and daddy. She wanted to know how soon she could be baptized. So we checked with all the grandparents and Shelly (Hayden's best friend) and the following Sunday was good for everyone to be there.

So with overwhelming happiness and pride her daddy baptized her on Sunday, September 15, 2013.

I'm so thankful that my God is big enough despite the many times I fail him, especially in front of my children, that He still moves and speaks to their hearts. All praise and glory be to God.
